The Greyhound Inn

Guest reviews

We are very proud to have had some lovely things said about us by our guests. Here are some of our favourites…

Top Marks!
After a long days hike along The Ridgeway, my son and I stopped in for dinner. Friendly staff, great food – whilst we ‘only’ had the burger and the beer battered Haddock, we both agreed they were first class. Flakey fish, crispy batter.  The chips, oh my. Fluffy on the inside, crisp on the outside. Washed down with a lovely Citra pale ale and finished off with the cheese board. Whilst only passing through, I can imagine if I was local I would be a regular. Top marks!

Just a really lovely atmosphere and place to visit.
We did a circular walk round the Ridgeway, and stopped half way for lunch. The food was delicious, but it was the super friendly and relaxed atmosphere that really made it special. Scotch egg starter was outstanding. Looking forward to going back.

Great food.
We live locally, had heard good reports so headed there for dinner this evening. I cannot speak highly enough of the service or the food. Each dish was well presented and tasted delicious, the chocolate choux buns with pistachios and cherry sorbet were a personal favourite, but all of our courses were superb. Would highly recommend and will be back.

Quintessentially English village pub with fantastic food.
This is just what a perfect English pub with rooms should be. The food is excellent, with wide gluten free and vegetarian choices – perfectly cooked. A gastropub but without the pretension. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable and the village is quiet and well placed for walkers/cyclists on the Ridgeway. The staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming with great attention to detail. A memorable place to stay and highly recommended.

Outstanding B&B with exceptional food and staff.
I have stayed all over the country and in some of the best rated hotels. But I have never stayed anywhere quite like the Greyhound. The room was flawless, full of character but with all the mod cons, made even better for being spotlessly clean. If the accommodation wasn’t enough to sway you to stay here, the broad selection of often changing real ales, the exquisite food and impeccable family-feel service (always with a smile) will certainly make your mind up for you!

Amongst the very best B&Bs I have stayed, in England.
The room was the best of old and new… the décor, plumbing, design and function were all properly and smartly executed. There was no clutter but everything we needed was there. The staff were excellent. We were welcomed by all and they showed a degree of focussed attention not normally found in the UK. The dinner was excellent. The food was cooked fresh, by a skilled chef who took pride in their art. The breakfast was the best I have ever had and I am in my 70s. We will be back if we can get a room!

Exceptional
Excellent Eggs Benedict breakfast. Quiet, peaceful location, laid back ambience, perfect! Room was spotless with wonderful comfy bed, great shower gels and shampoos. Nice touch with the Columbian ground coffee and fresh milk tea tray. Home made shortbread treats were to die for. Dinner of delicate cured salmon starter followed by the contrasting rich and meaty rump steak with a perfect thin, sticky peppercorn sauce (how it should be done). This is top notch cooking with the best ingredients, well done! Staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful, even let me sample the local vodka. This is the dream “old inn with rooms”, characterful with all the modern comforts which we all appreciate. Within minutes of arrival you are smiling, by the time you leave you’re grinning from ear to ear.

“Excellent food, very attentive polite staff. We had a wonderful evening and they were happy to accommodate my dairy allergy. Looking forward to coming back with our little dog.
Thank you.”
