Amongst the very best B&Bs I have stayed, in England.
The room was the best of old and new… the décor, plumbing, design and function were all properly and smartly executed. There was no clutter but everything we needed was there. The staff were excellent. We were welcomed by all and they showed a degree of focussed attention not normally found in the UK. The dinner was excellent. The food was cooked fresh, by a skilled chef who took pride in their art. The breakfast was the best I have ever had and I am in my 70s. We will be back if we can get a room!
Outstanding B&B with exceptional food and staff.
I have stayed all over the country and in some of the best rated hotels. But I have never stayed anywhere quite like the Greyhound. The room was flawless, full of character but with all the mod cons, made even better for being spotlessly clean. If the accommodation wasn’t enough to sway you to stay here, the broad selection of often changing real ales, the exquisite food and impeccable family-feel service (always with a smile) will certainly make your mind up for you!
Excellent Eggs Benedict breakfast. Quiet, peaceful location, laid back ambience, perfect! Room was spotless with wonderful comfy bed, great shower gels and shampoos. Nice touch with the Columbian ground coffee and fresh milk tea tray. Home made shortbread treats were to die for. Dinner of delicate cured salmon starter followed by the contrasting rich and meaty rump steak with a perfect thin, sticky peppercorn sauce (how it should be done). This is top notch cooking with the best ingredients, well done! Staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful, even let me sample the local vodka. This is the dream “old inn with rooms”, characterful with all the modern comforts which we all appreciate. Within minutes of arrival you are smiling, by the time you leave you’re grinning from ear to ear.
“Delightful inn and restaurant in beautiful village
We were four adults walking the Ridgeway from Foxhill to Steatley and chose the Greyhound as our overnight stay as it is a convenient half way point on this walk and only a short drop down from the Ridgeway itself. the Inn is modern and fresh and joy of joys accommodated us with our dog (a Hungarian Visla) with no fuss. in fact they positively welcome dogs at the Greyhound and Isla munched her way through an endless variety of biscuits and nibbles pressed upon her!. The menu was sophisticated and dinner was delicious with a very good choice of wines. We couldn’t fault The Greyhound for its warm reception, its clean, fresh decor and atmosphere. We will go again.”
“Very enjoyable stay in comfort with excellent service.
Fantastic stay with very friendly and helpful staff - excellent service. Delicious food in a lovely atmosphere. The pub has been decorated and designed to very high standards and our room was on the top floor with extremely comfy beds and a lovely bathroom with the finest of toiletries!”
